I'm not particularly pissed off at someone or something right now, so that's not what this is about. It's just a pet peeve of mine about bloggers sometimes. You know who shouldn't have a blog? People who desperately need an echo chamber. If you need some mental mutual masturbation, go into your room and write the stuff down and then file it away or share it with your emo kid friends. The Internet is a public medium, and that means you might actually face opinions that get in the way of yours. God forbid that this happen and that you might have to engage people you think are "stupid" because they challenge your preconceived notions. You might actually have to argue a little, which might put you outside your comfort zone.
Such a pity...
THat's why I don't troll many lefty blogs and stuff. Just going onto them consternates me.
I used to argue a lot when I was younger, but now I prefer going where I'll be stimulated and hopefully learn something.
That's one thing I like about libertariansim; its challenging.
Socialism boils down to the same thing: 2+2=5 if we try hard enough. It's a fallacy we've been choking civilation with for the last hundred years. Libertarianism allows for deviation and spontaneous order. It seems a lot more intune with the natural laws of physics..
I was thinking how money and valuation is the only demonstrable negentropic activity, other than life itself :) Both parties take away something they didn't have before.
Everything else gives into to entropy (2nd law of thermo-dynamics). life and trade does not.
OK. Spill.
Who are you talking about? Put up the link so we can all gawk.
Makes you wonder what kind of relationships people like that have. It also demonstrates how weak their positions are.
Roci,
The list is too long, but I can think of a few for you. Feministe, Pandagon and a few righty blogs I've seen in the past. Some of the righty blogs will just yell and scream about you disagreeing, but all of them have one thing in common: they REALLY don't like you disagreeing with them. It was Amynda of Pandagon, I think, who said that she would automatically delete your comments and consider banning you if she felt you were "blaming the victim."
But, if you want an example of this behavior from a righty blog, Right Wing News has at times killed my trackbacks when I have posted something here that tore up an argument that John Hawkins made. This post is an example of that. Maybe it was a mistake... but I doubt it. See, I saw MovableType ping his trackback script without any problem, I saw the trackback on his blog, then about a hour later, the trackback was deleted. I think I had the same result when I repinged his blog (I thought it was just a mistake with his software at first). I don't know for certain what happened there, but I am pretty sure now that it was a manual delete.
I'm not saying that Hawkins shouldn't blog, since normally he does a fine job of civilly addressing criticism. Most of my nastiness was directed at the lefties and the sort of shit-for-brains libertarians that flock to the Hit and Run comment sections at Reason. But, the sort of behavior does happen. There are few like you, Vox and I who will just say "bring it on."
Yes, I'm familiar with this syndrome-although I'm pretty sure the market isn't cornered by lefties or emo-ers.
This is a main reason I've lost interest in Myspace--all the pathetic, constant agreeing with each other and anyone who doesn't is shunned. It's childish. I wonder just what the point of it all is.
I love a good debate and welcome it.But I'm old(36) and no longer feel my world will fall apart if someone can prove I'm wrong.
