The next time Big Brothers, Big Sisters has a hard time recruiting men, it might want to think long and hard about the dangerous effects of hysterical morons like these workers at the Virginia Department of Health. It's not that men are more selfish than women. Rather, it's that things have gotten so absurd that government agencies are running propaganda ads that not so subtly suggest that holding a child's hand, if it doesn't make you feel right, is a sign that the child is being sexually abused.
It is a testament to the sickness of modern America that these people will be perceived as moronic do-gooders rather than as malcontents who ought to be turned into pariahs in their communities.

"Trust their instincts"? Most of the people at our DHS are either morons or burned out from dealing with morons. We reported a probable sexual abuse case to DHS and it took two weeks before they interviewed the kid, and then it was only after she finally told her school teacher that her stepfather was molesting her. WTF? The idiots at that department should have been thrown into jail for that crap.
BTW, I hold my 10 year old daughter's hand everytime we walk through a parking lot or cross a street. Anybody accusing me of being a pervert is getting their teeth knocked out.
Check out the comments from the Dr. Helen post. Our old pal Chuck(le) Pelto is there! Commenting in annoying memo format, as usual.
DBS,
Doesn't surprise me. A buddy of mine called the cops one time to report that he saw two girls chugging a 40oz bottle of malt liquor while getting in a car in a crowded parking lot. The response was "ehhh... we'll keep an eye out for them."
Triton,
I was better off not being reminded of that guy's continued and pernicious maintenance of homeostasis...
My dad still holds my hand. :p
The people who report an adult holding a child's hand to the authorities for fear of sexual deviance are in fact projecting their own sick lusts onto an innocent situation. Unless of course the child is screaming for help, in which case, yeah, someone should ask the adult what's going on.
Holding a child's hand is a sign you're a child molester in Virginia
It's just like how, in some quarters, it's a near-rape experience when a man & woman's eyes meet across a street or crowded room.
How about a campaign saying if you see a toddler running in the street that you should either report it to DHS or grab the nearest louisville (AKA ClueBat) and give that child's parents a Clue
