It's ultimately kind of sad that the controversial person in the race is Ron Paul rather than Huckabee.
- Jonah Goldberg, who is no fan of Ron Paul, discussing 'Liberal Fascism'.
Taken shamelessly from Samizdata.
I couldn't agree more. As much as I want to sometimes give Huckabee the benefit of the doubt that he is a good man with the wrong ideas, there is something about him that just doesn't sit right with me. He reminds me of what Bill Clinton would be like if he cared more about being able to call himself a Southern Baptist, and had better control over his sex drive.
Looks like the Iowans have been Huckstered.
Wouldn't surprise me. The majority of the social conservatives who support Huckabee are too trusting to not be suspicious of him.
Oddly, I couldn't agree with you more. Well, perhaps not as oddly as it might seem. Though Paul isn't my pick in the Republican race he is a sort of Republican or might be. We will see what he does as things move forward. Huckabee is at least a little d democrat. Though on Huckabee's side, he isn't considering splitting from the party when he is sacked.
Last I heard, Ron Paul isn't considering a third party run if he doesn't win the nomination. However, you couldn't blame him for running on a third party ticket in order to send a message to the Republican elites. The way the Republican Party is behaving now is a death sentence for conservative and libertarian values, and it needs to be shocked back into something more like the party of Reagan.
Ah, but you do have a point. And a good one. As a fact, in my ewwwillll ways, I am with him or you in that respect (well, maybe not evil exactly, how about counterintuitive, alternative, or calculating ways?). I flow, I am, it works. Good call.
I had actually meant to be nice in that last post. Rereading it, it's sounds harsh and judgmental or something when that really isn't or wasn't the intent. I don't mind if that is what I meant, but it wasn't.
Meh. Didn't seem too harsh to me.
