"I can't say that I'm totally pleased with the package, but I do know
that it will help stimulate the economy. But if it does not, then there
will be more to come," said Pelosi, D-Calif. (Or how empires spend themselves onto the trash heap of history)
There is no problem too expensive that it cannot be buried under a sufficiently large pile of greenbacks

First, thank you for playing one of my favorite commercials ever.
Next... This program to shore up the economy is as good as a government gets, imho. The last time this was done, it actually did have a positive net effect on the economy. Though it is somewhat sloppy, as almost all actions in a pseudo-democracy are (which I do approve), any reduction of government largess, a return of money to the people who made it, and admittance that the government is the poorer handler of our money by that same government in both word and deed... is impressive. That, my friend is revolutionary, that is truly progressive, that is imaginative and good governance (considering the times), and it will weaken the federal government.
Complain as you will, it is as good as it gets. President Bush receives great kudos for this action. Though we cannot and should not drain the swamp of government completely dry, pulling a plug here and there and spraying for mosquitoes while also culling crocodiles is probably a good thing.
"a return of money to the people who made it..."
Except that it is no such thing. Admittedly, it would be exactly that if the government's budget was in surplus, but that money they took from us has already been spent. This new money will either be borrowed into existence or printed into existence.
President Bush deserves a boot to the head for this idea, which is simply Herbert Hoover on steroids.

I have to agree with El Borak on this one, Doom. This money is going to be either borrowed or printed, neither of which are good for the economy.
