Well, in general, I'm against giving points for mere attendance. But when you can't even get your students to attend class, I kinda see why he did so. Personally, I chalk this up to the soft bigotry of low expectations that cultural Marxism implants in black and non-black alike.
Reading lower in the article, the problem became apparent: the dean's policy that 70 percent shall pass. So much for merit, so much for grades having meaning. A prof is forced to pass 70% of his class regardless of the quality of their work. Why should these students be paying money to this school, and why should anyone treat a degree from this school with any kind of respect?
Many of the classes I have taken for credit didn't so much give you points for showing up as drop your grade down if you didn't. It was part of a participation grade. Usually if you showed up and acted like you gave a damn about the material you got it, and it wasn't enough to really make your grade all that much.
