If Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to issue minimum-wage checks to 200,000 state workers in less than a month, he may want to rehire any semi-retired computer programmers he terminated last week. There are two routes here that are obvious to those who aren't slaves to the "enterprise" mindset. First, backup the data. If the code access a database, then run a SQL command to update all of the records to minimum wage. If it uses a flat file, hire a Perl programmer to write a Perl script which will read the flat file and do a search-replace on all of the salary fields. Turn the payroll system back on, continue running things as planned.
Problem solved.

Here's some typical political nonsense:
"To some degree, it's not the point," he added. "The point is the law needs to be adhered to, and the governor is saying we need to follow the law. And if the controller is saying it's inconvenient, I think the controller needs to explain why inconvenience is a reason to ignore the law."
Logistical impossibilities are now simply "inconveniences" that can be overcome by simple legislation. Want to flap your arms and fly up to fetch the sun? Just pass a law requiring it! Genius!
If the Gov starts ignoring laws because it is "inconvenient" it should start a chain-reaction of others ignoring them because they aren't convenient. After all, if it is good for the servant, then it should be good for the master as well.
You're a funny guy. You actually believe that the relationship works that way...
Yeah, that whole crazy servant and master thing... I realized last night what my problem is. I was listening to Glenn Beck on the drive home and he was speaking of some book that talks about Wilson... anyways the problem I have is that I am "unevolved" See, the human race has evolved past the antiquated notions of our founding fathers and the fact that I hold the same beliefs as they do is proof that I have not evolved with the rest of the human race.
Its kinda sad to find out that I haven't evolved. I wonder if it is not too late to do so or if I really am just a caveman.
