Another one who should go

Lamar Alexander supports the second amendment so much that he was the only Republican to vote against allowing firearms in national parks. His justification? It's "too extreme:"

Here's the statement his office just e-mailed me: I have consistently been a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights, but this legislation goes too far - further than President Reagan, further than President Bush, and further than Tennessee law.

Add him alongside such luminaries as Haley Barbour to the growing list of elected Republicans who cannot stomach themselves to make a principled stand on an issue where the principled stand is the popular stance. This is precisely what happens when voters settle for the lesser of the two evils. It's not at all unlike what happens when a woman's main criteria for choosing a husband isn't that he's a good, capable man, but that he "doesn't beat me or the kids." These rats thrive in a climate of such low expectations.

It has amazed me how much flak Limbaugh is taking for suggesting that Powell is not a Repub and that the party is better off without him. As if Powell is a holy man or something.

Seriously, the party needs to stop being center-left if it wants to survive. And to do that, it needs to find its capital-L liberal bearings again.

Believe it or not, I used to be rather soft on the second ammendment.  I always thought that people needed to cool it on the need to own a gun......

.... I bought a pistol two weeks ago, (with PLENTY of ammo.)  I'll leave it at that.

Well, you're not putting yourself out there as a conservative Republican politician, so we'll let that one slide!

Seriously, though, good for you, but don't talk too much about it online. I think the bloggers who brag about their gun collections are just asking for trouble if and when there is a serious new push for gun control or a gun ban.

As for me, well, I simply have ample means of defending myself in my own home :)

A year ago, I would have called you a conspriacy theorist.......

Now, not so crazy.  It's kinda sad, really.

I am conspiracy theorist, just not a crazy one. The conspiracies you hear about are the ones you need to be afraid of because they're the ones that people are either capable of carrying out or are stupid enough to try. That's why I see no reason to doubt the desire on the part of many elites on this continent to create a continental union. After all, the European Union celebrated its "50th anniversary" a few years ago after having existed for only about 15-18 years as the European Union. If you go back 50 years ago, the EU was a lot like NAFTA. On issues like that, you'll usually find that the elites who want to see them happen don't even bother to hide the evidence. Hence why I say that those are the conspiracies which warrant attention.

Just wanted to write and say I really appreciated your comment to the Judge Napolitano article on Reason.com.

I am surprised that they didn't use the excuse that someone would shoot animals since that is their misinterpreted logic for the 2nd amendment.
